What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses broad spectrum light technology to treat a wide variety of skin irregularities such as persistent redness from Rosacea, hyperpigmentation, vascular abnormalities, and acne scarring.  It also helps to stimulate natural collagen production.

  • Freckles
  • Birthmarks

  • Telangiectasias

How does IPL work?

IPL uses light energy to target a certain color in your skin.  When the skin is heated, your body gets rid of the unwanted cells, and that gets rid of the “thing” you’re being treated for.  Unlike lasers, an IPL device sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light, and can treat a range of skin conditions simultaneously.

How many treatments will I need?

This can depend on your personal circumstances, skin type, and responsiveness to treatment.  Most procedures require a minimum 3 treatments for the desired end result.  Hair Removal/Reduction generally requires 6 treatments, sometimes more.  This can depend on differing skin and hair types.  Hormones can also play a factor in the effectiveness of treatments, often resulting in the need for additional sessions.

Does it hurt?

Our device uses Contact Cooling to cool skin upon contact, before and during an IPL treatment, prioritizing patient comfort.

Is there any down time?

Following the treatment, your skin may feel like it has a slight sunburn.  You may experience redness, swelling, and some discomfort for several hours or even up to 3 days post-treatment. Your technician will provide detailed after-care instructions to take home.
